Cancer treatment at Medipol Oncology Branch Hospital has an advantage of offering a combination of multidisciplinary studies such as:

Oncological Surgery

At Medipol Oncology Hospital, internationally trained and experienced academicians can perform all complex surgical oncology procedures successfully ranging from treatment of prostate cancer to breast cancer.

Medical Oncology

Medical oncology is a category in which drugs, chemotherapy and other related therapies like biological response modifiers and hormone therapies are used in the treatment of cancer. Diagnosis and treatment of all cancer types is handled through multidisciplinary approach in Medipol Oncology Hospital.

Scanning programs performed to ensure the early diagnosis of cancer, the determination of those who are healthy but carry cancer risk and advising the patients and their relatives of the forms of cancer protection and other services offered by the medical oncology department.

Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy uses high-energy radiation to shrink tumors and kill cancer cells. X-rays, gamma rays and charged particles are types of radiation used for cancer treatment. The radiation may be delivered by a machine outside the body (external-12 beam radiation therapy) or it may come from radioactive material placed in the body near cancer cells (internal radiation therapy).

External-Beam Radiation Therapy

Patients usually receive external-beam radiation therapy in daily treatment sessions over the course of several weeks. The number of treatment sessions depends on many factors, including the total radiation dose that will be given. One of the most common types of external-beam radiation therapy is called 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT). 3D-CRT uses very sophisticated computer software and advanced treatment machines to deliver radiation to very precisely shaped target areas.

Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

IMRT uses hundreds of tiny radiation beam-shaping devices, called collimators, to deliver a single dose of radiation. The collimators can be stationary or can move during treatment, allowing the intensity of the radiation beams to change during treatment sessions. This kind of dose modulation allows different areas of a tumor or nearby tissues to receive different doses of radiation. The goal of IMRT is to increase the radiation dose to the areas that need it and reduce radiation exposure to specific sensitive areas of surrounding normal tissue. Compared with 3D-CRT, IMRT can reduce the risk of some side effects, such as damage to the salivary glands (which can cause dry mouth) when the head and neck are treated with radiation therapy.

Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

In IGRT, repeated imaging scans (CT, MRI, or PET) are performed during treatment. These imaging scans are processed by computers to identify changes in a tumor’s size and location due to treatment and to allow the position of the patient or the planned radiation dose to be adjusted during treatment as needed. Repeated imaging can increase the accuracy of radiation treatment and may allow reductions in the planned volume of tissue to be treated, thereby decreasing the total radiation dose to normal tissue.

Repeated imaging can increase the accuracy of radiation treatment and may allow reductions in the planned volume of tissue to be treated, thereby decreasing the total radiation dose to normal tissue. Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) delivers radiation therapy in fewer sessions, using smaller radiation fields and higher doses than 3D-CRT in most cases. 13 By definition, SBRT treats tumors that lie outside the brain and spinal cord. Because these tumors are more likely to move with the normal motion of the body, and therefore cannot be targeted as accurately as tumors within the brain or spine, SBRT is usually given in more than one dose. SBRT can be used to treat only small, isolated tumors, including cancers in the lung and liver, adrenal gland, pancreas.

Internal Radiation Therapy

is radiation delivered from radiation sources (radioactive materials) placed inside or on the body. Several brachytherapy techniques are used in cancer treatment. It is majorly used in gynecological cancers.

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine is a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose and determine the severity of or treat a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease, gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurological disorders and other abnormalities within the body. Highly simplified, a typical procedure would involve discussing the procedure with the patient, injecting the radiopharmaceutical which localizes in the area of interest, then is imaged using a special camera. It is like taking an X-ray from the inside-out. As Medipol Mega University Hospital we are proud to have the top of the line nuclear medicine equipment such as PET / CT, CARDIAC SPECT / CT, SPECT/ CT with updated versions. medicine into or around a nerve or the spine.

Pediatric Oncology

The Pediatric Oncology Branch is dedicated to improving outcomes for children and young adults with cancer and genetic tumor predisposition syndromes. It is thought to be one of the most challenging of specialties. There are many medical professionals who devote themselves to some aspect of this specialty. These could include the many medical technicians that may perform or aid in treatment as prescribed by a pediatric oncologist. Pediatric oncology, while it may concern itself most with eradication of cancerous illness, may also need reflect on how best to preserve a mentally healthy atmosphere for the child through providing parental support as possible. Our pediatric oncology service and staff are ready to take care the patients medically and emotionally also all our architecture structure has designed by the patients emotionally needs.

Latest Technology for Imaging "PET-CT"

PET-CT is a molecular imaging method that allows the changes in the body caused by diseases to be detected using very low doses of radioactive substances that have no side effects on the human body.

What are the advantages of "PET-CT"?

PET-CT is a reliable imaging method as the derived information has high rate of accuracy.
It enables diseases to be diagnosed at an early stage.

It helps to plan the treatment of diseases in the most accurate way.

After the treatment process, it shows how the disease responds to the treatment.
PET-CT makes the treatment time advantageous by avoiding unnecessary multiple surgical operations and medical methods.

The main types of cancer for which PET-CT is used are:

  • Lung cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Lymphoma (lymphoma)
  • Gynecological cancers
  • Colorectal cancers

Medipol Healthcare Group is providing Bone marrow transplantation services in Medipol Mega Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Centre.

Bone marrow transplant is applied particularly in cases of leukemia or on recurrent lymphoma and on solid tumors after high doses of chemotherapy. Both Autologous and Allogenic bone marrow transplant procedures are applied in Medipol Mega Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Centre:

  1. Autologous bone marrow transplant - The donor is the person him/herself.
  2. Allogenic bone marrow transplant - The donor is another person whose tissue has the same genetic type as the person needing the transplant (recipient). Because tissue types are inherited, similar to hair or eye color, it is more likely that the recipient will find a suitable donor in a brother or sister. This, however, happens only 25% to 30% of the time.

Strong academic staff who are experts in the fields of brain, spinal cord and nerve surgery are serving at Medipol University Hospital.

Medipol University Hospital Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center (PARMER)was opened on 3 September 2018 under Medipol Education and Health Group. As the only center for diagnosis of Parkinson's disease and movement disorders for thefirst time in Turkey, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment and the direction that research in this direction PARMER, our country is the first and only Center of Excellence. The center also organizes information seminars for patients and relatives, providing balance and language rehabilitation and psychological tests and support services.

Movement Disorders

Movement disorders can manifest themselves as slowing down of the movements or excessive involuntary movements. This term contains the diseases that appear due to the degeneration of the cells located in the “basal ganglia” area. These diseases are:

  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Essential tremor and other tremor types
  • Dystonia
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Parkinson’s Plus Syndromes (multi system atrophy, progressive supranuclearpalsy)
  • Tardive syndromes
  • Chorea syndromes
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Paroxysmal dyskinesia
  • Myoclonia
  • Tic disorders and Tourette Syndrome
  • Wilson’s disease
  • Functional movement disorders

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is one of the most specialized areas in the hospital is used to treat a number of neurological conditions, such as Essential tremor, Parkinson's disease and Dystonia.

The first treatment for movement disorders that occur with tremor like Parkinson’s is medical treatment. For the patients that do not respond well to the medical treatment or that have intense tremor attacks, deep brain stimulation procedure gives successful results. This method is also efficient to treat the symptoms of the Parkinson’s patients who only have stiffness and slowness, but not tremor. Additionally, essential tremor and dystonia, which causes intense bodily contractions, are two of the diseases that are successfully treated with deep brain stimulation operation when the medical treatment is not enough.

Neuro-stimulator;is a method of treatment that seeks to correct the disease by providing electric flow current to the areas of the brain which are responsible for the disease with thin electrodes. Two small electrodes are placed in the brain and placed under the skin like a pacemaker under the collarbone in the chest and placed under the skin with an extension cord. With an external computer, the neuro-stimulator can be programmed and adjusted according to the intensity of the specified electrical current, the brake and the wave size.

Robotic Aided Walking Treatment - Lokomat

Medipol Mega Hospital offers Robotic Aided Walking Treatment that is a physical treatment type aiming to have the patients regain their walking ability back or correct their walking, who had lost their walking abilities due to neurologic diseases such as stroke, spine injury, brain damage or orthopedic reasons such as hip-knee prosthesis, anterior cruciate ligament injury, with the aid of a robotic device.

Robot Aided Arm-Hand Rehabilitation - Armeo Power

Medipol Mega Hospital offers Robot Aided Arm-Hand Rehabilitation - Armeo Power to provide sufficient support to arm and hand and to develop the patient’s movement control and to improve the movement disorder of the patient due to diseases: Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury, Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy (brain paralysis in children), - Neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Patients who do not have any active arm and hand movements in the early stages of the diseases can also be taken to treatment and benefit from the arm-hand robot.

Robotic Bed System - Anymov

Robotic bed system is offered to patients whose mobility is quite reduced and intensive rehabilitation program required neurological patients and prolonged hospitalization duration due to several reasons, movement disorders formed patients and orthopedic patients just emerged from the surgery as in the cases of: Stroke, Alzheimer's disease, Brain Diseases, Spinal cord paralysis at lumbar and neck levels, Parkinson's disease, Geriatric patients (inactivity due to aging), Brain damage, Severe injuries, Hip-knee prosthesis after surgery, After anterior cruciate ligament surgery

With robotic technology, early movement of the patient is provided and posture and walking ability is regained and helps to avoid decubitus ulcers developing due to immobility. Early period robotic bed treatment decreases incidence of embolism, urinary tract microbes, constipation, bowel obstructions, mucus accumulation in the chest and pneumonia, joint limitation, osteoporosis, systemic or muscular weakness, kidney stones, blood pressure instability, widespread muscle and joint pain and prevents problems developing due to immobility. Early stage contribution to rehabilitation increases the motivation of the patient and accelerates the rehabilitation process.

Medipol University Hospital, Organ Transplant Team is extremely experienced both in liver and kidney transplant surgeries not only for adult patients, but also pediatric recipients even for small babies as well.

To date, our team has performed more than:

  • 2000 kidney transplants
  • 400 liver transplants

There are several advantages to living donor transplants when compared to cadaveric transplants. These include:

  • There is less waiting time involved.
  • The success rate is higher
  • Surgery can be planned, which allows for the best health of the donor and recipient.

Liver Transplant

The transplantation team performs right lobe, left lobe, left lateral segment, monosegment, and split liver transplantations even for the most complicated cases. Donated livers come from living and non-living donors. Living donors donate a part of their livers’. The donated and the remaining part of the donor’s liver will grow to the size the body needs in weeks. Due to laws and Regulations in Turkey, International patients must have a donated liver from a living donor from their family.

Kidney Transplant

A kidney transplant, also known as Renal Transplant, is a surgical procedure performed to replace a diseased kidney with a healthy kidney from another person. The kidney may come from a deceased organ donor or from a living donor. Family members who make a good match may be able to donate one of their kidneys. This type of transplant is called a living transplant. Individuals who donate a kidney can live healthy lives with the remaining kidney. Due to laws and Regulations in Turkey, International patients must have a donated kidney from a living donor from their family.
