Gastric Balloon
A
gastric balloon is a saline-filled balloon made of silicon which
place inside a person’s stomach in a weight-loss procedure through
the mouth. It is also known as an intragastric balloon and
helps in losing weight without any invasive treatment.
How
is the Procedure Performed?
Before
undergoing the procedure for balloon placement, your healthcare provider may
provide you with instructions to prepare for the procedure such as lab tests,
restrictions on intake of food and water, and medications.
During
the procedure, the person is mildly sedated and a thin tube with a balloon at
its tip is introduced into the stomach through the mouth. Next, an endoscope
having a camera is advanced into the stomach. With the help of the camera, the
healthcare provider can keep a look at the balloon as it is filled with saline.
The
balloon remains in the stomach for six months or one year and then it is
removed.
Who
are the Candidates for Gastric Balloon?
Individuals with a body mass index (BMI)
between twenty-five and forty and without any prior history of weight-loss
surgery can qualify for gastric balloon placement. Moreover, individuals should
be willing to adopt a healthy lifestyle and also be ready for regular medical
check-ups and behavioral therapy.
Gastric Sleeve
Gastric
sleeve, also referred to as vertical sleeve gastrectomy by
medical professionals, is a weight loss surgical procedure that
aims to help you lose weight by restricting your food intake.
Why
is It Performed?
Gastric
sleeve is typically performed after you’ve tried dietary
changes and exercise habits to lose weight without long-term success. This
surgery can help you lose extra pounds, thereby reducing the risks associated
with obesity, such as:
·
Type 2 diabetes
·
Stroke
·
High cholesterol
·
Hypertension
·
Heart disease
·
Obstructive sleep apnea
You’re
an ideal candidate for gastric sleeve surgery if:
·
If you have obesity with a body mass
index (BMI) of 32 or higher.
· If you have a BMI of 35 to 39.9 with a
serious health condition, such as severe sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, or
hypertension.
Gastric Bypass
Gastric
Bypass is a unique surgical approach that has been designed for patients to
lose weight. This surgical procedure revolved around creating a channel that
connected the esophagus directly to the intestines, so that food
couldn't be stored inside the stomach for a long time.
Why
is Gastric Bypass Needed? Who is Advised to Get It?
Not
every individual is supposed to get this surgery if they feel their weight is a
little over the line. There are specific guidelines issued by the
healthcare sector, for those who need this surgery.
If
you fall under this category, you are eligible to get gastric bypass surgery:
·
You have type 2 diabetes
·
Your body mass index (BMI) should be
more than 32.
· If your BMI is between 35-40, and you
have a disease that can have a better prognosis with weight loss, you're
eligible to get this surgical procedure done.
· Every other conventional and medical
method being tried for at least 6 months has otherwise been adopted and failed
to lose weight.
·
Is fit to get anesthesia and carry on
with the procedure.
· The individual going getting
a gastric bypass is willingly seen to be adamant to lose weight in
the long run.
If
you are worried about your weight and can see many other diseases
harboring your back just because of your weight, make sure to get yourself
checked at the Hermes Clinic. Experts over here will assess your condition,
give you the correct guidelines to follow through, and help you decide what's
best for you.
What is the Difference between
Gastric Bypass & Gastric Sleeve?
Gastric
Sleeve is the procedure in which a smaller channel is created within the stomach.
This is done by removing that part of the stomach. This narrow area is through
which the food passes down the intestines.
Gastric
Bypass is a surgical procedure in which a small pouch is artificially made,
that completely bypasses the stomach and connects it through the small
intestine. This rerouting of food makes it stay in the stomach for an even
lesser duration than it would when a gastric sleeve is built.
Cosmetic Surgery…
Rhinoplasty
In
rhinoplasty, the structure and appearance of the nose are altered while
preserving and enhancing the airway.
If
you are not happy with your nose or you are having any breathing issues or
deformities go for rhinoplasty and get yourself an appealing nose. It can
change the size, shape, angle, volume of your nose.
Rhinoplasty
is performed to correct deformity due to some injury, birth defect, or improve
breathing difficulty.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid
problems are present in many individuals which can be painful, results in
limited vision and their appearance can be affected. Such eyelid problems may
include a condition called ptosis in which eyelids become droopy,
there could be extra skin on the eyelid or inward or outward
turning of the eyelid. Fortunately, many eyelid problems can be treated by
ophthalmologists with the help of surgery.
Who
are the Good Candidates for Eyelid Surgeries?
Primarily,
people seeking anti-aging treatment are usually good candidates for eyelid
surgery because with age, the muscles supporting eyelids become weak and
stretch the eyelid. Due to this, the fat deposits under and above the eyelids
increase resulting in sagging of the eyelid skin, upper lids becoming droopy,
and bags appearing under the eyes. Although sagging of skin with age is a
natural process but a person may need to consider eyelid surgery if it becomes
bothersome for them.
Different
Types of Eyelid Surgeries
–
Ptosis Correction
The
condition in which one of the upper eyelids of both of them droop is known as
ptosis. Due to this condition, straight-ahead (central)or side (peripheral)
vision can become limited. Ptosis in one eye may give your face an uneven look
and you may look tired if you have ptosis in both the eyes.
In
a ptosis correction surgery, upper eyelids are lifted. The eyelid muscles are
manipulated in this procedure that becomes weak with age. Externally, excess
skin and fat can also be trimmed as well. Without making any incision, ptosis
correction can be done internally.
–
Blepharoplasty
The
skin of the eyelid is very delicate and thin. Over time, the eyelid skin has a
tendency to stretch. Sometimes, excess skin over the eyelid develops due to too
much stretching of eyelid skin. Your side vision will be limited when the upper
eyelid has excess skin. “Bags” appear under the eyes when the skin stretches of
the lower eyelid.
Blepharoplasty
is a procedure in which the excess skin from the eyelid is removed.
Simultaneously, the fatty tissues around the eyelids can be removed as well,
and also the tissues and muscles can be tightened during the procedure. The
surgery helps to clearly define the area surrounding the eye and the eyelid.
With the help of this surgery, eyes appear to be more alert and less tired.
Liposuction
Usually,
people with a stable weight but undesirable deposits of fat in specific body
parts like to undergo the process of liposuction. Liposuction is not a
treatment and overall method of weight loss for obese people because stretch
marks, dimples, or cellulite cannot be removed with
it. Liposuction aims to enhance the shape of the body and to
give an aesthetic feel by changing body contours.
Benefits
of Liposuctions
Although
liposuction is normally performed for cosmetic and aesthetic purposes,
sometimes it can be used to treat some medical conditions. Liposuction is used
to treat lymphedema in which excess fluid collects in tissues resulting in
swelling. It is used for the treatment of gynecomastia in men, to remove fatty,
benign tumors (Lipomas) and lipodystrophy syndrome in which fat deposits
increase in a certain area while decreasing.
