For over 25 years, IMO has sought to find solutions to all ocular disorders through the expert application of the best treatments. There is a highly specialised and committed medical team, the most advanced technology and spacious, comfortable and modern facilities. We are driven by medical excellence and quality customer service, embodied in a team committed to optimal patient care.
Medical protocol is based on being able to devote all of the time and resources necessary to each clinical case to ensure high-quality personalised attention. Patients who require it, for example, can be attended to by different specialists on the same day, thus simplifying the management and avoiding the scheduling of additional consultations.
IMO’s prestige is largely due to its steadfast adherence to the values with which it initially committed itself to the world of private medicine in the mid-1980s. Since then, more and more people put their trust in our commitment, experience and leadership. 2009 represented a major qualitative step forward for IMO, when we moved to new premises boasting 70 consulting rooms, eight operating theatres and the capacity to carry out 65,000 consultations and perform 8,000 surgical procedures every year. Our team of 180 professionals enables us to undertake this work with a high quality of service and personalised treatment throughout the medical and surgical process.
IMO Emergency Department
IMO’s Ophthalmic Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For any problem, patient can attend the clinic without prior appointment so that our medical team can examine and determine the seriousness of the emergency and medically or surgically treat it in the most appropriate way. Emergency surgery is performed by IMO’s specialists.
IMO Foundation
The IMO Foundation was set up in 2010 by a team of IMO professionals and, since then, its projects have counted on the support and collaboration of social organisations, volunteers, suppliers, sponsors and private individuals.
IMO obtains Joint Commission International quality accreditation
The seal, which is recognised worldwide as a symbol of excellence in healthcare, supports IMO’s commitment to safe and effective patient care. It is the first outpatient ophthalmology centre in Barcelona and the third in Spain to achieve the JCI certification in its category. The certification is one of the most prestigious quality seals at the international level.
The Instituto de Microcirugía Ocular (IMO) has obtained the Ambulatory Care Accreditation gold seal this month from the Joint Commission International® (JCI), demonstrating its continuous compliance with the internationally recognised standards in terms of quality care and patient safety. This prestigious quality accreditation in healthcare reflects receiving organisations’ commitment to safe and effective medical care.
With this recognition, IMO has become the first ophthalmology centre in Barcelona to receive the Gold Seal of Approval®, something which has been achieved by only two other outpatient centres in Spain dedicated to vision (one in Palma de Mallorca and the other in Madrid) and a total of 27 organisations throughout Spain. Internationally, there are around 900 healthcare entities certified by the JCI, including hospitals, university clinics, laboratories, medical transportation and primary care centres, long-term care and home-care facilities, and outpatient centres (our Institute’s category).
