What is LipoDissolve?
LipoDissolve is a recent non-surgical innovation designed to dissolve fat through injections of medications into the mesoderm, the fat and tissue layer under the skin. LipoDissolve is a form of mesotherapy, which is a medical specialty developed in France in 1952 and used to treat a large number of conditions. LipoDissolve is specifically used to melt fat from problematic areas and can be used to reduce cellulite and treat the signs of skin aging anywhere on the body.
How is LipoDissolve carried out?
The drugs most commonly used in LipoDissolve procedures are phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate. These medications along with other substances like vitamins, minerals, plant extracts and herbs are injected into the layer of tissue just below the skin with a fine needle. Experts believe the fat is broken down by chemical reaction and either migrates to other areas of the body or is excreted.

What surgeon performs LipoDissolve?
The procedure is carried out by cosmetic surgeons.

Duration of procedure/surgery : Each LipoDissolve session lasts around 20 minutes.

Number of sessions required : In most cases 1-4 sessions are required, with 4-6 weeks apart.

Days admitted : This is an outpatient procedure - you will not need to stay at the hospital/clinic.

Anesthesia : As the injections are largely painless, no anesthesia is generally used.

Recovery : - The majority of patients can return to normal activity within 1-2 days. - For those with facial bruising, it may take 7-10 days for the bruising to disappear. - Most people can return to work within 3-4 days.

Risks : LipoDissolve is still classed as an experimental procedure in the U.S. and much remains unknown about its risks and complications. Risks include: - Skin indentation. - Changes in skin color. - Infection. - Permanent scarring. - Painful knots under the skin. - No scientific evidence that LipoDissolve works.

After care : - Treat any bruising after LipoDissolve with arnica. - Avoid hot showers for 6 to 8 hours. - Avoid wearing make up for a few hours after facial LipoDissolve procedures.
