What is Abdominal Etching?
Abdominal Etching is also known as Abdominoplasty, and is intended to remove excess fat from the stomach area and create stronger muscle definition.
Small incisions are made in either the belly button or the natural creases of the abdomen. And a hollow tube-like instrument is used to extract surplus fat and skin.
Abdominal Etching is a delicate procedure, involving the process of sculpting grooves in the fat layers in order to emphasis the muscular contours of the abdomen.
What are the different types of Abdominal Etching
Liposuction is the name given to a procedure that removes pockets of unwanted fat from different areas of the body. In general, women tend to have liposuction performed on the abdomen and thighs, and men on the abdomen and flanks. In most cases, fat is extracted with a hollow tube known as a cannula and a suction device.
Where is Abdominal Etching Procedure Performed?
Abdominal Etching can either take place in the doctor's office or in an outpatient surgery center.
Duration of procedure/surgery : Generally, the surgery takes about one hour.
Days admitted : In most cases, patients return home the same day of the procedure.
Anesthesia : General anesthetic is administered.
Recovery : Once the Abdominal Etching procedure has been performed, the doctor will fit the patient with a medical compression bandage. This needs to be worn at all times with the exception of bathing. This is generally worn for between 3 to 6 weeks.
However, patients can often shower within 48 hours after surgery.
Risks : Risks related to abdominal etching are low and might include:
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Bruising and swelling
- Scarring
In addition, you can reduce your risks by finding a doctor that is very experienced in the abdominal etching procedure
After care : There are several limitations which include no exercise or lifting of heavy items. Also, placing any pressure on the abdominal area, should be strictly avoided.
Generally, normal activities can be re-established within 1 to 3 weeks of the procedure.
