Professor Marta Scorsetti is the Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery Unit Director at Humanitas Research Hospital.
Her main medical interests are lung, gastrointestinal and brain tumours, integrated radiation-chemotherapy treatments and special techniques such as Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT). She also handles special projects to help oncological patients, such as the Shiatsu service (in collaboration with Shiatsu Do Onlus), muscle therapy and the make-up laboratory (in collaboration with La Forza e il Sorriso Association).
She treats more than 4,000 patients per year and she has been working at Humanitas research Hospital for 16 years.
Professor Marta Scorsetti has improved the most modern radiation therapy techniques, especially the SBRT. With her improvements, it is now possible to irradiate small lung and abdominal tumours at high doses with extreme accuracy and precision.
She has introduced in Humanitas Research Hospital the instrumentations to perform Adaptive Radiotherapy, that permits a precise and accurate irradiation of lesions in motion, making Humanitas Research Hospital the first centre in Italy to use it. Professor Scorsetti also implemented a new linear accelerator with high-dosage FFF beams (TrueBeams), working with the manufacturer to start new treatment protocols.
Before her career in Humanitas Research Hospital, she worked at the National Cancer Institute of Milan (Italy) as consultant and specialty doctor at the Radiation Therapy Division, treating primary brain tumours and contributing to the establishment of one of the first Italian centres for Radiosurgery (Liniac based), set up at the Cancer Institute of Milan, in cooperation with the Istituto Neurologico “C. Besta”.
She is author and co-author of many publications both in national and international magazines and journals. |
