What is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is a procedure that involves lifting droopy breasts. The results are that breasts look more youthful and firm in appearance. Skin is removed from underneath the breast and the dark area around your nipple. The skin and tissue of the breast is then tightened and the nipple is repositioned to a higher level. This procedure is also called a Mastopexy.

Is it possible to breastfeed after a breast lift procedure?
In order to reposition the nipples, they may need to be detached from the milk ducts. This means that after a breast lift, it may not be possible to breastfeed.

Duration of procedure/surgery : A breast lift normally takes between 1-3 hours to complete.

Days admitted : A breast lift procedure usually requires one night stay at the hospital.

Anesthesia : General anaesthesia

Recovery : After the breast lift procedure, it is recommended that you wear a support bra for around 4-6 weeks after surgery. This helps to prevent the weight of the breasts aggravating the healing wounds. Your breasts will feel rather sore, and you will experiences swelling for a number of weeks. Make sure you use extra pillows when you sleep, as these can help bring down the swelling around your breasts.

Risks : These can include the following: • an allergic reaction to the anaesthesia • heavy bleeding or developing a blood clot • infection • unusual sensation and numbness in the nipples • unusual red or raised scars (sometimes known as keloids) It is also important to to be aware that the scars are extensive and permanent.

After care : You should try to avoid all types of strenuous physical exercise, including swimming for at least a month. It is likely, that you will require at least two weeks off work. It may take a few months, before your breasts fully take on their new shape.
