Dr. Afonso has been a practicing anesthesiologist at Hospital CIMA San José since 2003. He interned in the Jackson Memorial Medical Center before completing his residency in the Department of Anesthesia, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Medicine at the University of Miami. At the conclusion of his formal education, Dr. Afonso remained in Miami to pursue a fellowship in pain medicine. Dr. Afonso is board certified by the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates in the US. He has published several research articles in medical journals and is member of several medical organizations such as the Society of Anesthesiology of Florida, American Academy of Pain Medicine, American Pain Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. |
