He was a lecturer at the Penang Medical College from 1998 to 2004 and was the instructor for Basic Surgical Course organized by the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland.
Mr. Ong is a qualified Orthopaedic Surgeon with full subspecialty training in Hand and Microsurgery. Besides general orthopaedic surgery such as trauma and fractures, joint replacement surgery, paediatric orthopaedic surgery, limb lengthening, spine surgery, sports injury, the services provided also include all aspects of acute hand and upper limb injuries such as microsurgical replantation and reconstruction, fingertip injuries, nerves and vessels repair, tendon repair and reconstruction, hand and wrist fractures, brachial plexus and periphery nerve surgery, treatment of common hand conditions such as endoscopic release for carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger fingers, ganglion cysts, tenosynovitis, arthritis of the hands and wrists, congenital and acquired hand deformities, wrist arthroscopy, bone and soft tissue tumours of the hand, hand infection and finger joint replacement. |

Professional Experience

He completed his orthopaedic training from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and graduated with Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1998. After he had obtained his FRCS (Edinburgh) qualification, he completed his AO Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery in Switzerland in 2002. He joined the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery in National University Hospital, Singapore, as a Registrar for 15 months and then completed one year of Fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, U.S.A. in 2005. He went on to continue his Fellowship in Hand Surgery in Melbourne, Australia, for another 6 months. |
