Dr Thean graduated from the University of Leicester in 1990. He was trained in Ophthalmology in the United Kingdom and has been performing Refractive Laser surgeries since 1995 before returning to Singapore in 1997. Besides completing a Refractive Laser Surgery fellowship in the United Kingdom, he has completed two other sub-specialty ophthalmic fellowships - Uveitis and Glaucoma.
Dr Thean has clinical expertise in micro-phacoemulsification cataract surgery (with aspheric monofocal and multi-focal lenses), complicated cataract surgery, medical and surgical treatment of Glaucoma, Uveitis management and Presbyopia treatment. He is certified for LASIK, PRK, Femtosecond Laser Surgery (Visumax) and the use of Phakic intra-ocular lenses including ICL.
He has been invited to chair conferences as well as to speak on Cataract, LASIK, Visumax and Refractive Laser Surgery around the world. His area of interest for research is in Cataract, LASIK and Refractive Laser Surgery.

Dr Lennard Thean is a Visiting Consultant at the National University Hospital (NUH) and the NUH Eye Centre @ Biopolis. Currently he is the Head of Cataract, LASIK & Refractive Surgery, NUH. He also holds the appointment as Clinician Scientist at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore.
Dr Thean was instrumental in setting up Biopolis Eye Centre and Jurong General Hospital Eye Centre. As Director of Clinical Services, he oversees the clinical services of NUH Kent Ridge Wing Clinics, NUH E-Clinics, NUH Day Surgery Operating Theatre, NUH Eye Centre @ Biopolis as well as Jurong General Hospital Eye Clinics and Operating Theatres. |
